Consultations/ Second opinions:
Consultations are by appointment, which aims to reduce waiting time. We aim to provide your pet with a
thorough examination, and you with a detailed explanation of our findings and treatment choices, or further
diagnostic options.
All your pet’s records, including examination findings, laboratory test results and treatments are
computerised. This allows an easy revision of your pet’s health record by the vet before your pet is
examined. All medication will be discussed and dispensed, with clearly printed labels, by the vet at
the time of examination.
An estimate can be given at the time of examination for all cases, on request.
Free check ups are provided for new kittens and puppies.
We are happy to provide second opinions. This will involve us requesting full notes from your vet on
your behalf, prior to your appointment, to allow us to assess the detail of the case before examining your
pet.
Emergencies:
Out-of-hours emergency consultations are provided by our dedicated Emergency Clinic in Streatham.
(Tel: 020 8677 0976) This clinic provides all the necessary services for urgent or emergency cases whenever
our clinic is closed.
Specialist Referrals:
Any patients that require specialised veterinary care can be referred to colleagues in Veterinary
Specialist Centres at your convenience.
Vaccination:
Vaccination of your pet is essential to maintain a good immunity against some of the more serious and
sometimes fatal diseases. After an initial vaccination course as a puppy or kitten, annual booster
vaccinations are recommended for all pets. The detail of these booster vaccinations can be discussed
with the veterinary surgeon, with specific reference to your own pet. Annual vaccination also means
your pet is checked once a year. Our pets age quicker than we do and cannot tell us if they have any
problems. Responsible pet owners take this opportunity to allow there pet’s general heath status to be
evaluated by the vet.
Worming and Flea products:
Worming is recommended every 3 months for adult animals. Some worms affect humans, especially children,
so we have a duty to keep our pets clear of worms for their own, and general public heath. We stock a
variety of products, (especially for those difficult to worm cats) which we know are effective and our
staff will be happy to provide you with the necessary advice.
Our flea preparations for your pet have a prescription licence, which means they can only be dispensed to
patients that have been seen within the last year. If your patient has not been seen, we will happily
provide a quick flea check, free of charge to allow us to dispense the product.
 | Microchipping:
Microchipping your pet is essential in London where so many pets go missing. It is now used by all
the major charity and rehoming centres. It involves inserting a microchip under the pet's skin.
Each chip has it’s own unique number which can be read with a scanner. Your address and phone numbers
are then logged with the chip number in a national data base which allows us to contact you should you
pet be found. Microchipping is now compulsory for all pets travelling on Pet Passports. |
 | Pet Passports and Export Certificates:
We have a DEFRA registered vet at the clinic to advise and complete all the documentation required
should you wish to export your pet or travel with your pet for short breaks to Europe on the Passport
system. The latter requires at least 7 months of planning to get started but maintaining the passport's
validity is easy. |
 | Full Anaesthetia and Surgical facilities:
Our surgical theatre is designed to cope with all procedures from neutering to emergency and
reconstructive surgery within the capabilities of the veterinary surgeon on duty. Sedation or general
anaesthesia is administered by the veterinary surgeon and anaesthetic monitoring is done by a qualified
veterinary nurse with veterinary supervision. We also use electronic devices to check breathing and heart
rates, and which also monitor blood oxygen and exhaled carbon dioxide levels. |
Modern kennels for inpatients:
These central to our "procedures" area, which means your pet will have company and be monitored by
staff before and after surgery. Our kennels are modern, secure and easy to disinfect. Your pet will have
it’s own space with clean fresh bedding. Your pets kennel will be marked with a record card with details
of admission and any blood results or x-rays which may be relevant.
 | X-rays:
Radiographs are taken using high quality screens and films, which allow reduced exposure factors.
Films are processed immediately with our automatic processor, which shortens sedation or anaesthetic
time for your pet. |
 | Dentistry:
Dental disease is a growing problem for our pets. Animals need to have a general anaesthetic for
dental procedures, even cleaning. Teeth are first cleaned by our nurse with an ultrasonic scaler.
Extractions are performed by the vet with the aid of a high-speed drill and cutting device. The nurse
will then polish all remaining teeth and applies a sealant to the enamel to reduce further plaque build up. |
 | Full Laboratory Service:
Our In-House laboratory is used for rapid results in emergencies and pre-anaesthetic blood testing,
Feline Aids and Leukaemia virus testing. Urine and basic skin tests are also performed at the clinic.
For more involved tests, samples are collected by courier daily and results returned to the clinic the
following day. |
Ultrasound:
Our clinic has an arrangement with a local Ultrasound Specialist to whom cases are referred for
full diagnostic work ups.
ECG (Electrocardiogram):
We have an in house ECG machine, which is able to relay the data to an outside source for professional
interpretation.
 | Acupuncture:
Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with orthodox veterinary treatments. It should always be
used only on cases which have had complete diagnostic workups to rule out conditions that require
surgical treatment or that may be terminal. Most of the acupuncture in the clinic is used to treat
elderly patients as a general tonic or arthritic patients to alleviate pain and improve mobility. |
Free Nurse clinics and general advice:
We are not just an "A&E" clinic, providing care for sick patients. We recognise that we also
have a duty to maintain the health of our patients. Our clinic offers free Nurse appointments
for advice and check ups regarding Nutrition, Obesity, Dental Care and basic behavioural management.
Checks are also recommended and provided free for new kittens and puppies as soon as you get them from
the breeder or petshop. Any problems detected by the nurse will be referred onto the Vet for further
discussion and examination and treatment if necessary.
 | Behavioural Problems and Puppy Socialisation:
Behavioural problems can be referred to our trained Animal Behaviourist for consultation.
Our nurse and behaviourist run puppy classes locally and cover many aspects of puppy socialisation
and early training. |
Pet foods and accessories:
We stock a wide range of Hills pet foods and have trained staff to give you nutritional advice
about different diets to suit your pet. Our staff are also able to order other brands of pet food
within 24 hours. We have a range of pet accessories, including collars, leads, shampoos, treats,
toys and behavioural products. You can also browse through a catalogue, which has hundreds of
products, which again can be ordered for you within 24 hours.
Payment Facilities:
Payments in cash, credit card and cheque are accepted. All payment is due at the time of
treatment or purchase of products and unfortunately we are unable to offer credit facilities.
Your invoice and receipts are all linked to your pet’s records and managed on the computer system.
As a private clinic our fees reflect the level of service we provide and allow us to invest further
in the clinic and in further education.
